Any change to a network risks "messing it up" especially if you don't know what you're doing.

RTFM.

You need to get into your router settings. Usually to do this you enter in the gateway I.P. address into a web browser. Go to All programs> accessories> command prompt and type "ipconfig" then enter the gateway number into your web browser.

Usually the password and username to your router will be "admin" "admin" (no quotes). If this is not the case, or if you can not access your router through that I.P. #, consult your router manual.

Once you access the router settings you should be able to find a setting for the name of the network, I am not familiar with D-Link so I do not know exactly where it is, but try administration or configuration or something similar.
