Keep applying...About all I can say is good luck. And if you are a pervert felon, I hope you never find a job and live on skid row. Good luck anyways.

When it asks you on the application if you have ever been convicted of a felony don't lie ...say yes and then attach a letter of explanation along with it. Explain your circumstances that led up to your conviction and state that you were ...young and stupid back then or whatever the case is and that it has been x number of years now without you getting into trouble and then state what your goals in life are.

Employers look for honesty, and a sincere desire to make a change in life. Do yourself a favor and make up a copy of the letter and then run off about a dozen copies so you don't have to write it over and over.

Then....when you get an interview make sure to dress in professional looking clothing. Don't go to the interview in Jeans...flip flops ...with piercings in place etc...look like you are part of the workforce.

I am part of an interviewing committee at work and I KNOW this works because we have hired people with a felony background and most of them turned out to be great workers.

I have hired people who have been in prison, and found that while they have been on Parole, they have worked out just fine. Sadly, when Parole was over, my hired fellows, turned into someone else! It was as if they did not know how to live in a society without someone watching over them........at least, legally. The last man had worked for our business for a lot of time, years, and ended it by stealing many thousands of dollars, furniture, and appliances. The last man is, now, back in prison, from other crimes.
Being a social worker, teacher, I as just certain that I could help those who NEEDED at 2nd chance. Although, we thought all was well, and the men really seemed to give their ALL while on parole, they WERE returning to 'old tricks' when they were on their own.
If this is from a female or a male who has served in prison only once, not a life time of going in, getting out, going back.........I believe you are able to get a job, if you are truly honest about how badly you need that 2nd chance. Although, my experiences have turned out badly.................I would still give anyone a second chance who had only known prison for a short while. How long you were in, what you were in FOR, can close a lot of doors, but, open other doors. What did you learn in prison to do? Did you have jobs before you were sentenced? Use those tools, along with honesty, and I can't see you having problems getting a job.

Theft and violence related felons are usually the hardest to place. If your background relates to crimes like that you will just have to plug away.

Your best bet is a really small company where you can explain one on one to the owner what is happening, and they can decide whether or not to "risk" hiring you.

Or a very large company that is held to rules of not being able to consider your past if it has nothing to do with the skills of the job that is open. Meaning, if you don't handle money, then they won't care if you have theft. That kind of thing.

Medium sized companies are the hardest to get on with, and usually have the most stringent policies.

Alot of people who've never done anything wrong are having a hard time finding work ! Many job agencys won't even hire a felon these days. BTW, this is the wrong place to ask for work. Try www.craigslist.org.

I wish I could help more but I know that most of the temp agencies will not turn you down. I believe, as with so many of the other ex cons I know, you deserve better than that. You did your time. I hope some other people have more concrete advice for you so that I can learn from it to help the people I know also. Good luck and stay out of trouble now. :) Peace!

You just need to keep trying. Make sure you look professional at every interview. Even if its to some place like home depot. If the employer asks, let them know that what you did is in your past and youre trying your best to make your life better. Be strong.
