Anything can be a toy- it depends on the ferret.
If I buy it, my guy won't play with it.
What I have for toys- boxes taped together with holes in them, dryer tubing ($7 at the store) and a couple small plush animals- I think I won them from a machine years ago. He also loves bags.

An excellent (and cheap) website is www.ferret.com
I buy all of my ferret supplies from there, and even with shipping, it ends up being a couple bucks cheaper than the stores around here.

Two of my aunts and uncles had ferrets--the most that I remember is that they are rascals! Ferrets love burrowing, hiding, and getting into stuff. Since your pet store seems lacking, let it crawl around in an old (but clean!) sock, perhaps with a few holes cut in, or even an old pillowcase. Just let it explore the room/house a bit....you just have to be sure to watch it, or else it will make a mess of things!

Ferrets also often play with each other. I don't know your situation, but you could also consider getting another ferret to your happy home.

Go to walmart or similar store and buy a small, plush dog toy with a squeaker in it. They drag them around for hours and because the squeaker sounds like a baby ferret in distress, it is also a good way to call your pet in case he is lost or just hiding. The one I bought was a monkey I think, it had long thin arms and legs and my ferret loved dragging it around cause it was easy for him to get ahold of. Have fun

Hi! Ferrets were originally bred to go after rats, so keep your buddy's instincts in mind, and start looking around. Ferrets are in the CAT family. What would you make out of what you have that kittens (which your ferret acts ((almost)) exactly like all it's life) would love to play with? Chasing, hiding, following, are all good ferret games, easily conducted from a chair with a stick, a piece of string, and any suitably-fashioned "animal" to chase. They love to crawl through paper towel tubes. I taped three together. You can make a ferret castle of soda boxes taped together with tunnelways cut between the boxes.Ferrets do have on hugely endearing habit. They store possessions. Give your buddy a comfortable, small box with easy access to the back so he can feel it's a safe hiding place. Inside, put his favorite posessions (the flip-flops it keeps stealing, your old wallet, anything leather or rubber (mine used to go into the cabinet with his little hands, and grab the microwave meals because he loved the plastic lids and he could carry them easily). My favorite game was to grab everything he had stolen during the day, and bring it all into the middle of the floor. I'd watch him try to put it all back, hissing and spitting at me each time I moved to pick an item up from the pile or take one away from him. Hope this helps!

They like things that roll...BALLS and those Kong toys that you put treats in. A box with a hole cut into it so the ferret can get in with a ball in it is a great toy.

I share this idea with EVERYONE! Its only because ferrets love it sooo much...

Get yourself a cardboard box...cut a ferret size hole in each side of the box. Fill the box up with ferret toys, ping pong balls, aluminum foil balls, children's toys (without small pieces or rubbery parts), rice (uncooked of course), or even sand.

Your ferrets will have a ball digging and exploring in their new "fun box".

My goomies have a big box full of the packing peanuts that are not made of foam....I think they are starch. I ate one to be sure, YUCK! But they are smarter than me, they don't eat them. But they sure love to dive into the box. They also like empty 12-pack pop boxes. And paper bags. And stuffed dog balls that are bigger than them. They can keep a person entertained for hours!
