Trust - That feeling of complete safety and contentment when dealing with others.
Do you ever wonder how a pet dog or cat will sleep so soundly around its master? It's because they have complete trust in them. Throughout their lives, they have LEARNED to trust that particular individual with his life. As a result, the master has EARNED the animals trust.
Let the master make a mistake and step on his tail while asleep, and you will note that his sleep won't be so so sound anymore. The pet must re-learn the trust and the master must re-earn it.
Humans are the same. They must learn to trust individuals who are willing to earn their trust. Let any thing happen to lose that trust (lying, telling a secret, failing to keep a promise) and the trust suffers. To some people, trust is never earned and, consequently, never learned by their peers.
Why do we need to trust others? For survival and safety!!! Otherwise, everyone would be paranoid, jealous, and afraid to communicate.
Paula... You know I'm right! You can trust me!! :-)

We have to learn to trust because if we don't, life becomes a lot harder than it should be because we have to do everything on our own. Not that it's really a bad thing, but I've been led to believe that we should learn how to deal with others peacably, at the least.
We have to earn trust because if we don't, others won't take us seriously. And that makes it harder for us to take ourselves seriously, which is not a good thing.
We can't trust certain people because, as I said before, they haven't earned our trust, so there's no sense in taking them seriously.
To me, trust is being able to, not to sound redundant, take people seriously. It means being able to believe what they say, because what they say should be equal to what they do. (That's why I have a problem with people who say "Do as I say, not as I do." They're hypocrites, and I despise hypocrites...)

no man is an island... admittedly, we cannot live on our own... how independent may we are, we need others to survive... and in order for us to live in harmony with others... we need to learn to trust them and rely them some of our aspects for survival, otherwise, we will not live.. on the other hand, we have to earn other's trust because if not how can we get the help that we need for survival from others if we will not earn their trust.... and finally... why can't we trust... maybe because of failures and dissappointments that were happened on us but though we tried to say we can't trust no more, we eventually still trust and rely on others... knowingly and unknowingly...
