They say that I won't feel as motivated to return. It makes me wonder. I keep delaying getting a higher degree. I am 33 years old. I procrastinate and I'm feeling comfortable working. But I want to get a profession.

I think you mean if you don't enroll now, your parents think you never will...

I can definitely confirm this. I'm sick of school. I want money. But I'm an idiot, and you should listen to your parents. Enroll in grad school. Finish it as fast as possible, and then sit on your pile of money and enjoy life.

The truth is that many well paying jobs don't need anything more than a Bachelor's Degree. Research what it is you want to work in for the rest of your life and see if it's necessary to continue your education.

Most people who plan on going back to graduate school do because they realize how much more money they can significantly make after getting their masters or PHd.

Maybe your line of work doesn't need it so it would just be a waste of time. But then again, it's always good to take a few refresher courses.

If you REALLY do want to go to Graduate school then you will go. Don't be rushed into it though. It's a lot of money to waste if you're being forced to go by your partents. Make sure what you're studying is really what you want to master in.

it could be that you will get used to the life you're living right now and wouldn't want to go back to studying. but it may work out for you. usually though, graduate school education (i think) should be taken as soon as possible so when you take the exams the info will be fresh in your mind and you'll feel motivated :D

It is never too late to go back for a Master's. I got my undergraduate degree in 1979 and didn't go back for my Master's until 1998. My Masters wasn't even offered 29 years ago. Find a field that you are really interested in a go for it if you want to.

Well yeah and you're not going to have the motivation to go back later on down the line. So just go ahead and get it over with and you'll be done.

Generally speaking, yes it's true. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get back in the swing of school.

I am a TEACHER. As far as your parents are concerned I am GOD.

Sorry parents BUT what your parents say is RUBBISH, (to be rude it is B.S.) (it is a word that sounds like bollards)
- it shows a character that is selfish because it thinks only about what THEY want for you not what YOU want
- it shows TOTAL disregard for facts - I've been a teacher for 25 yrs and KNOW by experience
- it shows a disregard for quality, let me explain

I have known so many highly successful students, with demanding parents at school. They leave school where parent's pushy ways, often some paid for coaching etc have helped make the student a high grading SCHOOL student.
You notice I placed the word SCHOOL in capitals. This is because SCHOOL is DIFFERENT to TERTIARY education like Rap music is different to melody, like a youthful old mind like mine is different to the old, set-in-it's ways younger minds of your parents.

Let me give you one of hundreds of examples - a country boy who had wealthy parents did wonderfully at school, teachers admired his cleverness in Maths etc.. I disliked him because his work was DULL - nothing challenging etc.. I hated him because he was a bully and teased students ( one 'B' student in particular) who did try but did not do so well.
He flew into Uni - the 'B' student just got in.
The smart boy was NOT pushed at Uni, he gave NO original thoughts, he partied, including placing various articles on the roof of a Uni building he was warned, warned and THROWN out
The 'B' student struggled through 1st year, began to be brave and put forward original ideas in 2nd yr, was rewarded and passed brilliantly with a high degree.

I myself waited until I was 35yrs old to go to Uni and I did brilliantly, as did the other eight mature age students.

WHY?
You are still young - you have things to do; mistakes to make, fun to have. On the good side you have new things to contribute to any place you work, also you have energy, strength and enthusiasm to give to work.
Then you MATURE. You want more. You want family; respectability ( a bit); children who are PROUD of their parent; ambitious things like promotion; a prospect of more money and influence.

How do you get these - by going on to TERTIARY education.
Now you will WORK as if your life depended on it, it does.
Now you will not need to party. Now you WILL be BRAVE enough to be ORIGINAL.
Now the things you have done since school will be USEFUL in your studies.
Now you will NOT stay up to party but stay up to work.
There is nothing as sweet as hearing your beloved child make sleeping noises as you work NOT just for your betterment but for the BEST reason of all - YOUR CHILD. You will get brilliant grades You will get a QUALITY education.
I have to DISCUSS!!! this topic so often with parents of my students and so many have come back to tell me I was right that their child did better at University at a later age.
One did not she is now a singing star, she went on 'Idol' and is now so wealthy and happy.
The rest -examples - he worked as a check out boy, went to Uni - is now a millionaire accountant; she worked in a newspaper; went and did Communications and is now the wealthy manager of the Idol star'; he went and worked in shops, at 22 did a 'Business degree' and now owns a a small chain of electrical stores; he hated being the junior in a computer store, did Computing at Uni and now earns a six figure salary as the boss of a government department. She ( my own daughter ) travelled the world then went and did several degrees and now, clever girl she does contracts -for example works hard 2 days a week at home, and gets $50,000 for 3 months work (approx 24 days work). At the moment she has been sick and is getting $2,000 for work she does sitting in bed with her lap-top. She agrees with me have a break do your young stuff then go and ENJOY QUALITY education.

That does tend to happen, if you put something off for too long you tend not to get back to it.
