What do you think about Genetic engineering? There is no doubt that there are benefits of genetic engineering, but on the other hand there is no doubt that there are disadvantages as well! What do you think?

Personally, some genetic engineering is good e.g. "Golden Rice" while others are not so good e.g. stem cell research using an embryo.

it failed to mention anything about gentic engineering of human dna to erradicate illness and deseases carried through the genes e.g downs.

There are four different types of human gene therapy; somatic gene therapy, this is the correction of genetic defects in any cellls bar the reproductive cells using a retrovirus vector which carries the gentic codes to repaired what is damaged within the body be "rewritting" the dna of every cell. This can cause medical problems but not ethical problems as ethically it is no different to having a broken limb plastered.

The next type is germ line therapy which is the genetic treatment of reproductive cells. This has the potential to wipe out many heirediatry deseases but still has many ethical issues as it has the potential to change the dna of the future generations for better or for worse.

Enhancment genetic engineering enchances the individual by improving the individual gene. This raises the same ethical problems that a designer baby does is it ethically right to decide upon how a child will look. however if you have no problem with plastic surgery why should you have a problem with this.

Eugenic enginering is the improvement of the human species as a whole by the malunipulation of the human geneome. This raises ethical issues also as this could improve humans so they are imune to cancers or could be used as a selective biological weapon to harm millions.

P.S growing human body parts on animals is ethically and morally wrong -see works by Singer (1970's)

I was really disgusted by the fact that human parts are grown in animals. I don't care for the benefits. I think that death regulate the human population. I know that i sound horrid. But people who are incapable of surviving, should be dead (natural selection). Sheep that are 15%-20% human. They are going to bite those scientists in their *** one day
