Cotton is grown on farms in the warmer climates. They need a longer growing season to mature. They are grown in rows. The farmer plant the cotton seed from a planter that is pull behind a tractor. The cotton plant is fertilized and cultivated throughout the growing season. Like a 3 -4 feet bush . When growing form a boll which in turns grows and matures. The boll will open up when ripe. when it is time the farmer will go out and defoliated the cotton plant. This is done by letting all the green leaves die off and drop to the ground. by doing this the cotton will not turn green in the process of harvesting it. Then a cotton picker will strip the plants of the cotton bolls and be gather in a cage behind the harvester. Then it is driven to the gin to separate the cotton from the seed. then sent to the mills to be made into clothing.

Cotton grows from a plant, like a rose bush would grow. However, the plant has a straight stem with small, thin branches and then the pod of cotton forms on the end of the smaller branches and then opens; early summer.
