Do most men walk in a masculine way and most women walk in a feminine way? I understand that if someone has an exaggerated swagger or swish that they are probably doing it consciously, but do most people subconsciously walk according to their gender? Because I would think walking just means putting one foot in front of the other and I think it's odd that genders walk differently unless they are *trying* to be seductive or something.

I only ask because it is hard for me to tell how someone is walking unless it's obvious.

I'm a transsexual, and let me tell you first hand, there IS a difference. If I continued to walk the way I was as a "girl", people would think I'm a gay man. No, you DON'T notice it (I didn't until I started this transition) but it's definitely there.
Guys tend to walk with authority and a need for space. They walk to get their point across and walk with a sense of purpose. They kinda walk like they're stomping ants or something, lol..I dunno.
Women tend to walk daintily. They take their time, they have shorter steps. They also tend not to walk as fast and their stride isn't as long.
Also there's the hip issue. Women's hip bones differ slightly from men's. Women walk with their center of gravity in their hips and thus push them forward when they walk. Men tend to walk with their center of gravity towards their chest or stomach and walk more "square" leading off from their shoulders.

I think the way men and women walk also has to do with the differences in men's and women's bodies. Women's hips vs men's hips. I don't think prepubescent girls who's hips are still relatively narrow walk much differently from boys. Haven't payed much attention to that, but it would be something to observe.

Women walk with their hips, moving forward with the pelvis. Men walk with the shoulders, moving their arms more.

I don't really think about how I walk or whether it looks masculine or feminine. Walking is as subconcious an act as breathing for me.

men and women usually walk differently because their skeletal structure differs slightly. the pelvis is different, which makes the gait and hips move differently.

women's hip bones are placed differently than mens...they are wider apart...it causes women to move differently.
