I am from California and I am moving with my fiance to Connecticut. I dont make friends very easily because I am shy for the most part. I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me to make my move easy. Something to do with my time so I dont get homesick and a way to meet people? Thanks!

(1) Dont take furniture - buy all new stuff when you get there.
(2) Dont take an excessive amount of clothes - buy new clothes when you get there
(3) Find clubs, hangouts, cafe's, hobby stores, etc. that cater to things you like to do - they usually have ads there for people who are looking to hook up to do similar things - you can put your name there too.

As for something to do, that depends on your own likes and dislikes. I did a lot of sight-seeing and touristy stuff when I first moved to Florida to get to know the history behind the places. And after I started meeting people, I made sure to visit the local night scene places so I knew what was trendy, what was "in", and how people expect you to dress and how they act when they are relaxed.

And finally, I drove all around the place and learned where everything was so if someone said "need to go to xxx" I could say "I will drive you there - lets go!". Great way to have conversations with people and get to know people better, and at the same time become more integrated with the area.

Two years ago I moved from Indiana to Arizona I didn't know a single person nor did i have a job or a place to live. My suggestion is to just be yourself Don't go out of your way to make people like you. I always started with the people i worked with or maybe with you go to buy things for you house or hobbies, there are always people willing to meet you when you're you'll find them

keep yourself busy, and like the first guy said, get involved in things. Check out the city's official website and learn about it and what it has to offer. Try and talk to people online maybe in that area and ask them what there is to do. I don't live there now but when I moved from Missouri to California (Santa Clarita Valley, LA), I hit up some people in that area on myspace and asked them about the area....... big change! Good Luck!!

Find a job in Connecticut and soon you will befriend your co-workers. Read up on the area you are moving to and go sight seeing at first

Meet new people Join YMCA Or YWCA. Take home movies before you go. Buy Phone cards for your family & friends so they can call you once you move.

Also make sure you get a signed contract from the movers.
