: Tomatoes are a heavy feeder. Use a starter solution for transplants. Pour approximately one pint of starter solution (2 Tbsp. 5-10-10 or 5-10-5 fertilizer per gallon of water, or dilute fish emulsion) around each plant to wash the soil around the roots.
Side dress 1 to 2 weeks before the first tomato ripens with 1-1/2 ounces 33-0-0 per 10-foot row. Side dress again 2 weeks after the first ripe tomato with a balanced fertilizer such as 5-10-5; repeat 1 month later

Too much nitrogen produces lots of foliage but little fruit. For abundant fruit, fertilize at planting time with a phosphorous rich, moderate nitrogen fertilizer like Whitney Farms Flower and Fruit Booster. If the soil was enriched with a lot of compost, use Whitney Farms Bone Meal.

No fertilizer will be necessary if you have rich, composted soil. Plant your tomatoes and mulch heavily. Most blights and early disease to tomatoes are caused by hard watering where the soil kicks up and gets on the under part of the leaves. This is how blight begins. Heavy mulch takes care of this as no soil can splash up on the leaves. For general purposes I use fish oil emulsion about 1 to 2 weeks after transplant. Stinks to high heaven but really gives veggies a kick. I dont use Miracle grow or any other packaged fertilizer because unless your soil is tested you have no idea how much nitrogen, potash, etc that you need. Give a plant too much of a nutrient and it may not produce...particularly nitrogen.

I've always used Miracle Grow for tomatos, and mine always turn out great! It's so easy to use, too. Just mix with water according to the instructions.

YOU CAN USE MIRACLE GROW AS A GENERAL AL PURPOSE FERTILIZER. mAKE SURE THAT YOU USE TOMATO DUST, PERIODICALLY FOR INSECTS. I would fertilize them biweekly.
