i have the newest windows media player and i want to play something off the internet but when it pulls up my windows media player i can hear it and everything but it won't play it. when i play my music i can see the design thing-- it's just the videos... it won't work

In WMP, at top tabs - go to tools/options/performance/ see if it helps to make adjustments to the "video acceleration" slider,

When streaming videos off the Internet make sure that you have the latest codecs installed. WindowsMP should automatically do this I think, but just incase>http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm
For videos that you have stored on your computer I recommend that you download VLC media player. Its free and in my experience is a lot better that media players that you will pay for. See:

I had the same problem..tried everything, and then resorted to WMP 10....I'll be interested to see what you can do to fix it to.
