My ex says he is not ready for a child and doesn't want to be part of our unborn child's life. He wanted me to terminate the pregnancy and I won't, so now he wants me to adopt. Is his only motive is because he doesn't want to pay child support? He wants to terminate his parental rights- suggestions?

I know this must be painful for you and my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine my husband telling me to do such a thing. If it were me and this is just my thoughts, I would make sure he signed over his rights as soon as the baby were born. I would raise my child how I saw fit and could care less if he ever paid a dime, but he would never have contact with my child. When my child was old enough to decide if he or she wanted to know their father, I would let them make that choice. NO man would request me abort or give my baby up for adoption and be a part of it's life. This is so sad, this breaks my heart. You just be strong and love your baby. You don't need someone negative and stressful around you during your pregnancy, this is supposed to be a happy time for you.....I'm sorry, this is just the mama lion in me.

That is totally up to you. You shouldn't have to carry the financial burden on your shoulders by yourself for the next 18 years just because he doesn't want to help. Nor should you be forced to give up a child that you want for his sake. That is the chances the two of you took having sex. No birth control is 100%. Now the child deserves the support of both parents. The only reason I can see for him wanting to terminate his rights is to avoid child support. The courts very well may terminate his parental rights and still make him financially responsible. The courts are set up to look out for the best interests of the child, not the parents. He's a very selfish person.

He wants you to adopt? What - you having your own child isn't enough for him?

He's a dumb@ss if he thinks terminating his parental rights is even an option. It's not.

Who cares why? Its not important.

What is important, figuring out how you are going to raise your child alone.

He can't terminate his rights, thats stupidity. He made the baby and even if he doesnt want to be a father, he has to contribute financially to his childs well being. Terminate communications with this idiot. You dont need the stress. The lawyer will talk to him for you.

Good luck.

Maybe because he doesn't want to be connected to you for the rest of his life. I think a baby has a right to 2 parents, married and stable. Adoption is what's right for the baby.
