I was married to a cop for 16 years. He apparently cheated on me much of those years and it ultimately ended our marriage. In my research, I've found that this is the ONLY profession to be studied for infidelity, which is reported at 80% of all police officers. I was a good wife, mother, there was no abuse, everything seemed fine - and I'm not a stupid or naive person. What's the deal with cops???

A Police Officer represents authority, and with authority, some people mistake it as power. It is the rare police officer I have met, who is not arrogant and filled with their own self importance. They just have to show their badge and the fate of the person is in their hands. Power is a huge reason why, I believe, they cheat. They do it because they can, and they dont seem to live by the same rules as the non-powerful husband. And the opportunity always is in their face....they just have to pull over a young female driver and threaten them with fine/jail and the girl bribes her way out of it. There are so many females out there who are attracted to power...they dont care the man/woman is married....it is the power they exhibit that is the turn on....not the man. Out of his uniform...stripped of power, that kind of woman wouldnt look twice. The same applies to groupies....they will have sex with a band member at the drop of a hat.....why?.....because they are in the public eye....and the most important people at the venue.....its power, and some men just dont know how to handle it....they end up thinking they are above basic moral principals because they can get away with it. Its power gone mad, thats what I think. How do you think these old miserable priests end up sexually abusing little boys? They have the Power and people look up to them. Its very easy for a person in power to get anything they want.

I was a carpenter, I bet it's close.
There seems to be so many women left at home and they are not getting any from hubby. The cops have opportunity because many women love the uniform idea or as a way out of trouble.

Women just can't keep their hands off a man in uniform! That combined with the fact that they usually take charge of situations and are assertive. And also the fact that they are potentially putting their lives on the line every day. That is a lot of pressure for anyone. They get temptation laid in front of them and their judgment get a little clouded. Although they are supposed to set the standard, they are still human.

I think if there were other professions studied, the results may be different too - doctors, CEOs. I'm sorry that you were cheated on - it sucks.
