Btw, Dannyc, your answer is too optimistic. You dont even have any caveats in your answer.
Amazingly, your question posted a minute before I could post this question:
How does the trade of Takeo Spikes and Kelly Holcomb for Darwin Walker and a pick affect the Eagles?
I think its too early to ask your question, there is still more time left in the offseason. Why dont you wait until after the draft and then re-ask the same question?
Basically, I feel that we would have gone to the Super Bowl last year if our defense could stop the run. First, I would like to see how we do in the draft. I think we still need a strong safety and perhaps another linebacker. No team wins the Super Bowl without an above average defense, and last year, after the injuries, I think that we were below average. At the end of the season, our ball control offense made our defense look better than it was.
I think that our offense is good enough to make it back to the Super Bowl, but more work still needs to be done to our defense. New England will be tough to take on in the Super Bowl. They are even better with their free agent acquistions.
Why don't you try answering my question because your question is like a premature ejaculation? Im 29 yrs old, and Ive been an Eagles fan since I was 3. I can still remember the championship game in 1980 when we beat Dallas to get the Super Bowl. If there is one thing that I do know in all my years as an Eagles fan, you are getting excited way too early.
Also, I have yet to see one good answer where someone has addressed the Eagles losses plus free agent acquistion. Personally, I think any good answer MUST address the loss of Stallworth, the acquisition of Kevin Curtis, the trade for Takeo Spikes, and whether or not Broderick Bunkley can step up and do the Eagles drafted him to do. Any other answer should not warrant your consideration.

I am a huge Eagles fan but I do not think they will win the superbowl. here is why:
1. Brian Westbrook is a good back but there is no depth behind him. Generally teams that win run the ball well and they need a power back behind Westbrook.
2. The Eagles can't stop the run. They continuously grab undersized DTs and the linebacking corps is bad. Who knows if Takeo Spikes will be any good, he's played 15 games in the past 2 seasons. Trotter is old and his knees may give out any any moment. Matt McCoy and Dhani Jones are not huge playmakers. Omar Gaither is emerging as a good LB but they clearly need more playmakers at LB. They need to use the safeties too much to stop the run which hurts their defense against the pass, even though they have a great secondary.
3. Andy Reid is a bad play calling and cannot manage a clock. The Eagles will never win a Super Bowl with him as the head coach. There are a lot worse coaches out there, but that doens't mean Andy Reid is a good coach.
4. Holocomb and Feely will not be able to do what Garcia did last year. McNabb may or may not be able to even start the season. McNabb may get injured again. This is also a product of Andy Reid's playcalling. When you pass too much it opens up your qb to injuries. Despite all of this McNabb has been a great qb. Hopefully he will able to recover from the injury and be a pro bowl quarterback again. If he is healthy he is the 4th best qb in the league behind Manning, Brady, and Brees.
I would love to see the eagles win the superbowl, but these are essentially the same problems the Eagles have had for years and they will probably be a playoff contender again, but won't win it all.

i'm sorry dude however the farthest that your team will bypass is to the nfc championship interest. anyone is getting so excited that the Eagles had "this way of physically powerful offseason so some distance" I thoroughly disagree. despite they have been given Jason Babin and cullen jenkins yet they at the instant are not something whilst in comparison with Justin Tuck or Osi Umenyiora the NFC east competitors of united statesGiants. and that they gained't %. up Plaxico. The Jets Steelers or Giants gets Plaxico. additionally approximately that "super offseason" what the hell will they do with Vince youthful. he's a freakin backup and that they nevertheless pay him lots. what a waste. and those stupid Eagles have been given DRC from the cardinals. till then it replaced into solid, that they had DRC and Asante. Then they went forward and have been given Nnamdi and thoroughly screwed themselves up. 3 professional bowl high quality corners. Now those idiots are making plans on doing away with Asante Samuel. How lots stupider can they get? And besides, as u mentioned, the Packers are gonna weigh down u like they did final 365 days. The Falcons will beat u too. do not forget the bears the two cuz they might get to u. believe me. The Eagles are fairly solid, yet not super bowl solid.

NO McNabb got hurt in November and shouldnt be fully recovered until this November because it usually takes a full year to recover from a torn ACL. If you want a good look at what a QB goes through after surgery on an ACL just look at Daunte Culpeppers year and that should be what you could expect from McNabb. The Eagles have also lost there number one WR with only Hank Baskett and Jason Avant and Reggie Brown all of whom havent proven much yet. Defense wont be as strong this year Walker was a huge run stopper. Plus NFC East is really strong.

First off:

I think ur pretty much on topic...i dont member evrything u said cuz sum idiot @ the bottom of the page wrote an essay on how terrible of an Eagles fan he is...
I think the Eagles with Takeo have an outstanding defense 2 work with...the talent is there....DT's are not a concern...and Bunkley isnt an undersized DT bi any stretch of the word...
U cant base a superbowl contention on a theory...right now u gotta give ur opinon on if u think the talent is there....any1 can get injured.... and Mcnabb is prolly the gr8ist qb @ fighting threw injury....all the h8ters on here will tell u... Mcnabb will get injured again....just ask urself...healthy players??.. do they make the superbowl???...i say yes...most talented and vetrine team in the NFL.... like i said any1 can get injured...member Shawn Alexander??.... member Mike Vick???... ladanian can get hurt...would u stop believeing in him???
stay faithful....and dnt let h8ters shake that Philly pride....Donovan= will win a SuperBowl in Philly...that i guarantee

No NFC team will win the superbowl. They have inferior talent right now. The best teams in the NFC would barely make the playoffs in the AFC. The Eagles in particular will have trouble reaching the SB. Their offense will struggle because McNabb won't play the whole season, you can't always expect a backup to come in and play like Garcia did last year and their best recieving threat comes out of the backfield. I think they'll make the playoffs because Dallas will have a downhill slide and Coughlin will find a way to be outcoached by any team the Giants play. But they will run into a much better AFC team in the superbowl, if they make it that far. And thats a big IF.

Well, I am a lifelong Eagles fan as well. I started following them at 9 years old and I'm 36 now, and I too remember the 1980 Super Bowl (as well as all the other lean years in between) Here's what I see:
QB: McNabb? ehh...his middle name is now "ouch". IF (and it's a big if) he stays healthy, it's a good sign, but that much is obvious. Unlike most I have some faith in Feeley. I'm not going to do any annoiting, but with some improvements on the defensive side of the ball he could carry the team for a little while. The situations in Miami and San Diego were not in his favor. He's a west coast guy, he's big, and has a reasonably strong arm. (B)
WR: I like the Kevin Curtis aquisition. I think he has far more upside than the oft injured Stallworth. Touchdown Reggie Brown will only improve, as will Hank Baskett. Besides the Owens years this is the best group of recievers the Eagles have had during this current era...of course, that's not saying much. Jason Avant is unproven. Bethel Johnson is a long shot. (B-)
RB: Westbrook. Nothing else needs to be said. As long as he's healthy and Reed/Morningweg give him the ball 20+ a game the Eagles can win 10 games at least. Lack of Depth here (as noted above) could wear on him as the season progresses. Who knows? Maybe Reed will finally draft another RB to go with him, a third rounder perhaps? (B+)
OL: One of the best in the business and why I have some faith in Feeley. Everybody with the annoiting of Garcia forgot to consider that I could make some decent plays with a line like this. Shawn Andrews will become a perrineal pro-bowler. (A)
Offense: (B only because the WRs aren't completely proven, and Westbrook is on an island, if Curtis plays to his potential and Reed drafts a decent RB, this converts to an A-)
DL: Kearse coming back will help if he remians healthy...if not this could still be a big problem. Am I the only one who wondered why the Eagles swooned over Darren Howard? Talk about overrated...ick...I'm not sold on this guy at all. I guess we can hope he improves with the return of Kearse, but to me this is a HUGE ?. Bunkley and Patterson really have to step it up. This insane thought process of Reed's where he drafts Giganto offensive linemen but short, stumpy defensive tackles has always baffled me. A former lineman should know better. (C, and I'm being generous)
LB..."sigh" anyone remember Joyner, Evans, and Thomas? Ahhh...those were the days. (Where have you gone Buddy Ryan?) Anyway Trot has been ordered to drop 10-15 lbs. to take some of the pressure off those awful knees. If he can do this and fight aging another year or two the eagles might squeeze another pro bowl out of him, but this is high optimisim. Spikes to me is another HUGE ?. Might be good, might be another Dhani Jones. I think Gaither might actually cause me to forget William Thomas (the original, the LB) eventually but I'm still stretching here. (C- and pray it's not worse than that)
DB: Am I the only one that questions Lito and Sheldon? I guess I am. Call me stodgy but I still remember Eric Allen and Ben Smith...or evenTroy Vincient and Bobby Taylor. I'm still not convinced this duo is of that calibur, though Lito has his moments. Weapon X is Weapon X. You know him, you love him, you absolutely cannot F***** live without him. Considine played alright but needs to turn it up a notch. No doubt an improved D-Line would bring this group back into my good graces. (B- with hopes that I'm being too hard on them)
Defense: (C, and I'm being nice)
S/T: "Do do dah do doo" Green Akers is still the place to be. Solid as ever, though I admit to stressing over him more than I used too after that '05 season. I don't like Dirk Johnson but I haven't liked a punter since Reggie Roby was in the league. (B)
Kick/Punt Return: Jason Avant and Jeremy Bloom??? Oh come on...(D) Could we just clone Westrook and have the evil one run back kicks?
Special Teams: (C+)
Where does this leave us? I'd say the Eagles have a shot to make it to the Super Bowl in a weak NFC, but I won't take any odds against them beating Indy or New England in anything but a fluke. For that matter I don't think they can take very many of the AFC teams at all without more improvement. Final Grade isn't in yet, but as it stands I'd put the Eagles at 3rd or 4th in the NFC. Possibly 2nd if a lot of the "?s" go their way.
odds: 12-1 against a Super Bowl, 3-1 against winning the NFC.
Edit- Ok, I have to chime back in to answer the person below:
1) McNabb is not Culpepper. Culpepper went bad BEFORE the ACL.
2) We have not lost Westbrook, who was the Eagles leading reviever last year. Curtis will exceed Stallworth's production
3) Darwin Walker a good run stopper? What kinda crack are you smokin? We were near last in run stopping last year with Walker on the team
4) The NFC east is hardly strong. It's actually very weak. Keep dreaming.
If you want to be critical, at least get it right.

yea ofcours they got a great chance of winnin or atleast gettin there. they really strengthened up the D this offseason. plus they already had great playmakers lik dawkins, trotter, n sheppard. n wit kearse and MCNABB bac they gonna b doin great next season. maybe if they get a good wide receiver.. (i no we just got kevin curtis but im not 2 sure he can catch mcnabbs deep passes) we need a good reliable healthy WR n we'd b set. we're already in good shape to make it far neway.

No, they have a great running game, but by air, it needs some work.
The defense is also average.
The only way for the eagles to win the super in these next few years, are to draft very well this upcoming and next season

Yes, absolutely. The only thing is...McNabb has to stay healthy, which he's shown he has a hard time doing. Westbrook is emerging into a superstar and their receivers are starting to step it up. They need to do it soon, though, because the window is closing fast.
