When I think of a hero, I think of someone who is brave. By brave, I mean having the ability to overcome the most difficult situations and thrive. My grandma is my hero because she did just that.

My girlfriend Lacy is my hero. She loves me for who I am, knows everything about me (past accomplishments AND past screw ups) and still love me anyway. I drag race professionally and broke my lower leg pretty badly in a crash last Fall (surgery, steel rods and plates, metal screws and all; I literally set of metal detectors at airports). When I was laid up (first bedrest, then wheelchair, now I'm almost off my crutches), she worked extra shifts, did the cooking and cleaning, the shopping. I was pretty upset about feeling useless, but she said she was doing it because she kknew in her heart and soul that I'd do it for her (she doesn't know how right she is). So this is what I'm going to do to repay what I could possibly never repay. I already bought a 1997 Harley-Davidon Road-King for her, but she doesn't know it. The day I can walk unassisted, I'm going to make up an excuse to go to the dealer (good friend and race sponsor) to buy a tank-top or a baseball hat or motor oil or something. On the keyring for the Road-King, I'm going to put the key, an engagement ring, and my picture on it. When I hand her the keys, and she sees all of it, I'm going to tell her that it's a package deal proposal and ask her to marry me (I'm reasonably certain she'll say yes). Then we're going to have a reception that'll go on until the last person passes out (my friends are some pretty hard-core rider, racers, and drinkers). It should be a helluva party.

Not to sound arrogant and cliché, but I am my own hero. Again not to sound arrogant, but I think I am the best person on this Earth. Sounds so arrogant, and probably is, but it's true. It's too easy to pick a family member or someone famous.
