I got a hamster for Christmas, a little over two years ago..would have been three this Christmas..anyways...how long are they supposed to live? I was just curious if I did something wrong or if they are not supposed to live long. He was loosing all of his hair and had and 'old looking' face. Thanks in advance!

I guess I forgot to mention...the reason I was asking was because it died a couple of days ago..but in the last few days/week, it had been kind of getting stiff, couldnt run in it's ball, and didnt look like it could see well..anyways..thanks

Hamsters usually live between 2-3 years. He was pretty old for a hamster, but if you had it for over 2 years, I would say that you did a good job with it for it to live that long. I am assuming that the hamster died? If so, I am soooo sorry.
It is hard to lose a pet.

first let me say sorry for your lost. a hamster does not have a long life span, they can live to a 1 to 4 years but most of the time they only live to 2 or 3 max. You didn't not do anything wrong as your little guy grew to a right old age and him loosing his hair, and him having an old look to him is the first signs of him nearing the gates of heaven. I am again sorry for your lost put I would get another one and give him a happy home like you did your last one. These little guys are so great and they do fill the home with laughter and love.

I read that the average life span is 2 - 3 years. Sorry about your hamster, you get attached to pets. My bird died a year ago, it hurt.

You did fine. Hamsters usually live 2-3 years...Sometimes 4 but that's rare. Theyre fuzzy and cute and fun to have but its a shame they don't live longer. Im sure your lil hammy had a good life though. Sorry about your loss:(

The pet store owner told me that they live for about 2 years.I had one for 3 years and my dog nocked the cage down and mauled him.He was fine but died 2 weeks later.I think he would have live another year.

hamsters average life span is 2-3 years yours lived a decently long time.

as long as you keep it healthy it should live anywhere from 2 to 4 years!

I have owned about 8 hamsters thru out my life and they usually die around one year
