California permits 16 years of age to drive with License and insurance. Insurance rates are lower for those who have excellent grades in school. To get your license at this age you must take driver ed and driver training.

A learners permit will be issued to a person at 15 1/2 years of age if the person has completed an approved driver's education course.

You have to be at least 16 and then can drive with a Learner's Permit. You need an adult over 21 with you who is licensed to drive in California.
Once you have your hours in, you can then apply for your Drivers License test. Once you get your license, if you are still under 21, you have restrictions on driving alone and at nught as well as having passengers. It's called a graduated learning.

you cancontinual at sixteen with your license yet can not have friends in the vehicle with you except you're 18 or one buddy is eighteen with their license. there's a curfew of 10 PM too-my son by no skill had lots situation as he usually purely drove to college and artwork and did lots extra at 18 besides than sixteen years. you're required to do such a number of hours with driving college and instructor and such-those training will educate you all this info

16, i may not be up to date though. i remember hearing something about them changing it to 18
