And what will USA's position be? Personally I dont think Britain should take this from Iran, Iran is just tweaking its nose at them.

Don't know it is too early to know.
They are talking and see where it goes from there.

I sure do love how everyone but the Brits and Bush are talking about war.

Your right when you say Iran is sticking its nose up at them but I don't think Britain is willing to invade over something as trivial as a few naval sailors being illegally arrested but there will be reprisals in other ways mostly political for now.
Britain will not go to war without the United Nations and the United States backing them. This won't be like the Falkland war the Iranians are far better trained and have more forces than Argentina did during that war and a country that is well trained in desert warfare the British aren't.

Here are likely scenarios:

1. Iran release its British prisoners, after putting the U.K. through the ringer, including possibly a trial.

2. Iran holds the prisoners for months or a year and then releases them.

Here are the unlikely scenarios:

1. Britain, with the support of the United States, invades Iran and rescues the prisoners.

2. Saudi Arabia successfully acts as a mediator in the dispute and the Brits are released.

All out war is unlikely as it would cause a international event. quite possibly a world war. US would back Britain as it has done with us. Iran should give in before then.

Everyday those soldiers remain in custody will push Britain into a war that will like the US go nowhere! They are starting to realize that the soldiers have started pulling out so they are going to do anything they can to pis someone off, that way they can fight outside their front door!

No. Britain isn't in any shape to take on Iran. Air power alone won't stop Iran from kicking our butts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

war with iran is a foregone conclusion

whether with whom is the question

you are right....iran will be no falklands
(persia not part of commonwealth w/ no brits as inhabitants)

it will be a chess game btwn the queen & the ayatollahs

besides....SAS can do a much better bloody job than Delta

I think USA's position will be running for the Iranian border shouting 'Whoohoo!' and waving their M16's. Iran is pushing it's luck certainly, and as yet I can't see why. I think at this stage, war may be a little premature.

As for the guy who says 'Any arab nation is no match for the United States or the UK' - go check your history books. In particular, look at Afganistan and their military history, and you'll see why Bush went for Iraq instead!

If Britain does go to Iran, George will use "helping out our friends" as his excuse to finally get in there and start some ****. Not to say Britain hasn't helped us in Iraq, but this world police **** is starting to get old.
