I live in a block of flats and there is a lot of thick black smoke on my landing and a burning smell (difficult to breathe). I am not sure where it is coming from.

Should I call the fire brigade ? Can I get arrested for wasting their time if they come here and there is no fire ?

Please answer quickly...

Call that's what they are there for. Are there any extinguishers / fire alarms systems in the flats if not bring it up with the landlord. I f I had seen this I would'nt be on the computer asking this question. KEEP OUT AND STAY OUT UNTIL THEY ARRIVE. Shout out to others fellow persons in the flat that theres a fire

I do hope that you are still alive to read this, you will probably guess from my name what one of my jobs entails. I'm sorry to say this but if this is a sick joke then it doesn't go down well with us members of the Fire Service,if it's not a joke ALWAYS call the Fire Service if you suspect a fire. You will not be charged as long as it's not a malicious call OR A JOKE

Yes call it in. There may be a burn close by & they may know of it. Mention you see no fire but thick black smoke & hard to breathe.

Thick black smoke is often the sign of an industrial fire, generally petroleum, or tyres.. at the very least, you could call your local law enforcement and check in with them.

Thick black smoke equals fire. Where there is smoke there is fire. Err on the side of caution and call the fire department.

If this is the first time its happened then call the fire dept. it is an honest concern. If this happens daily, then I would start my own investigation into the problem.

Just make sure it's not your flat.
