Do people from civilization (not born into indiginous life) learn wilderness survival skills and go live in the woods?

I use to in the military, but they called it going to the field. I absolutely hated it.

I would think its an inborn instinct in most of us. I know not to eat anything smelly or ugly, leaves of three leave it be... and that anything on four legs can and will kill you....
