sounds like a screw is loose
flip the laptop over and re-tighten the screws *make sure you don't strip the screw head or threads
also try changing the touchpad settings (palm check & touch sensitivity)

It could be a few things.
1. Your mouse cord could be going bad. Over time the connection of the wire to the mouse may fray inside the mouse and the connection is lost. This can cause it to "jump" around the screen since the mouse is trying to "catch up" to where you moved it to.
2. The connection your mouse is plugged into may be dirty or corroded. Unplug the mouse and see if there is anything in the computer on on the mouse connection. If there is clean either or both and try using the mouse again.
3. Sometimes they just go bad so you can just buy a new mouse. I prefer optical mouse's since they do not have the cord issue.

Well, I have had this problem... If your finger gets a little sweaty, your mouse pointer will act like a maniac.
try wash your hands without soap. Dry them properly. Then try using your computer again... If the problem persists, follow the next solution.
Scan your computer for spyware and viruses and remove them if found any.

Download the latest touchpad drivers (in a number of cases - Synaptics). There is a known bug with HP and Dell systems that requires you do install the very latest drivers and lower the sensitivity of the touchpad itself.

I agree with MS Dell.
You as well want to make sure there is no dust or any kind of particals in your touch pad.
Make sure you scan for adware and spyware to.
Check out AVG antispyware
So you dont have to deal with messing with your touch pad lol heres the URL

is it a touch screen? If so, then you need to clean it with spraying a cleaner on a cloth and wiping it on it then wiping it off with a tissue or something that doesnt leave a trace of cloth

do you ever use an external mouse on your computer, if so your mouses are probably conflicting with each other, try adjusting them and always set the touchpad as default .

You need to calibrate it. Go to settings and there should be an option for pointers. Its easy.

I worked on a computer that did this. It was infected with a virus. Try running a few scans.
