take the difficult course
1) Next time you are arrested by a traffic cop, DEMAND a ticket and don't offer bribe
2) Use the new Right to Information Act (2006) to bring corrupt officials to court
3) Form a group with like-minded people who want to bring change in this country. I would recommend Medha Patkar who is fighting for the rights of helpless tribals against multinational companies and powerful governments.
4) Don't watch cricket. It's a game that supports sattebaazi
5) Be part of your city's citizen awareness group = Rotary Club, Youth Hostel.
6) Spend a week volunteering at red light districts teaching about condom usage considering the growing AIDS scare
7) If you're businessman like me, ALWAYS pay full taxes.
and the last and important thing,
* When a foreigner comes and tells you India is filthy, corrupt and dirty, acknowldege his convenience and just tell him:
"I am trying to make a little difference here - it's not that bad"

By not allowing the politicians to rule again. So there needs to be constitutional amendment.
Public attitude should change, they should not rush to make money and learn to work and earn for their lifestyle.
Police who should behave has a role model, they need to change.
Schools and institutions should set an example.
There is a saying; when there is a good administration-peoples standard of living, their attitude goes high;
when the standard of living and attitude goes high-the water level in the land goes high;
when the water level in the land goes high - agriculture standard and the out put goes high in the entire nation.
So if the head of the family, if head of an institution or school, if a leader of the nation stands as an example guiding their children and the nation to the right path we can definitely set an example and prove our nation as corruption free. To which every individual has to change and will change although it is very difficult, but can be achieved by strict rules and implementing the rule.

this is a problem rampant in many-a developing country...the people, not the government, should stand up and let their voices be heard demanding transparency in their government...Transparency for example in economic transactions by the governments: economic stewards should keep ledgerbooks open for the people and independent watchdog groups to keep track of of (except for government secrets)..they should allow the international community to look over it's shoulder and ensure there is accountability...the free press and other independent organizations should also take a role..i too come from a country with similar problems..i think, however, that it starts with the people standing up for the country and expressing their desire for an end to corruption as a function of their patriotism..thus to stamp out corruption the people should ensure that the government is accountable to them and the government should hold itself accountable to the global community
In regards to the caste system someone else mentioned: Although I am not sure of how far India has gotten in eradicating it, it is important that the people embrace one another regardless of caste and remind one another that they are all Indians...Finally, education is the key to the next generation..instill in the future leaders ardent patriotism so corruption is not even a question.

Just tell me one Country where Corruption is an Unheard thing.
It is like a weed in your Lawn. How best it is maintained depends on the Gardner.

India should establish a Republican party along American lines and keep out the democrats at all cost.
An Indian Republican party would lower the level of corruption while increase political effeciency and increase the standard of living.
The Indian caste system could also be reformed.
