Boats with engines are required to have a white stern light to let people know which end is which as the boat approaches .

If the stern is too light, the IO could be adjusted incorrectly. Are the planing trim tabs adjusted correctly?

The stern lite lights up the bow of the boat when you are going over 1 knot.

Never heard of "stern lite" but there is a stern light in the sense of navigation lights. What context did you hear this term?

By the way, there is no proper word "lite."
