Well I heard that snails are illegal to own in maine. Is that only certain kinds like apple snails?

neutron, I want snails to mave my snad to prevent aneobic gas bubbles in my aquarium, and it is in fish because it has to do with an aquairum

Yes, they are illegal in Maine. They are illegal for sale but you can import them with a permit. Here's what the article has to say:

"Many species have already been considered and rejected. Among these are tarantulas and snails... Snails - Because they serve as intermediate host for a wide range of aquatic parasites and other pathogens, all snails (Gastropoda) are restricted and can be imported only by a special importation permit with specific health certifications, therefore snails cannot be traded by commercial pet shops."

Looks like you are out of luck.

Can't say I've ever heard of this before! If suggest you ask at a local fish store - they and their suppliers will have a listing (by state) of any fish/animals that are illegal to possess/sell. It may just be that they don't sell well and your store doesn't keep them in stock. They will be able to order them, though, as long as there are not restrictions on them.

Not exactly sure what you are asking here .. but there are plenty of snails that naturally live in Maine. They ae a nuturally occurring critter.
