In what ways did the muckrakers represent both the best and worst features of a free press in the US?

The muckrakers are the free press. It a way that they need to sell the news. They always misquote, misrepensent, or just out right lie to the people to sell the news. In doing this they ones that they do wrong to has to try to correct the worngs to them to cause more news.. so it just reaps the money for the news media.
