Go for a light pink or just a plain clear coat, something that looks close to your actual nail color is conservative.

I hate that, why can't we just wear the colors we like. But light pastels. pale pinks, warm bronzes, mauves ... nothing bright, or odd colored , think NEUTRAL colours...

do a light pink, if you go to CVS or Wallgreens in l'oreal section they have colors that are very light but you can notice that your nails are painted, i work in a restaurant too and thats what i use.

Skin tones, lighter colours that can only be seen close up, nothing too showy. Stick to the lighter pastels.
But honestly, the french manicure is soooo elegant for work!
