my 1997 dodge dakota 4x4 is in the shop getting all 4 ball joints replaced, both front shocks, and also a freeze plug replaced. plus an alignment once everything else is done. about how much is all this going to cost? any idea?

sounds like around a thousand to me...but it all depends on where you take it.....in the future ALWAYS GET AN ESTIMATE BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE! that way you can shop around for the best deal among the shops you are comfortable doing business with

The freeze plug could be anything from a five minute job to an all day one if they have to pull the engine to get to it. Everything else could be done in 4 hours. $300 labor + $300 parts plus whatever the freeze plug come to.

Anything less than $1,000 is not a ripoff if the work is done properly. There always can be legitimate extenuating circumstances, but an honest shop will explain what extra work they ran into.

It will be different from region to region, and from shop to shop.
You should have been provided a WRITTEN estimate for the work before you authorized the work be done.
In my state (California) it is required by law.
