I just want a clear answer to why recording the top songs from a radio station and downloading the very same song from a p2p network like limewire diffrent? Why is it illegal, what is the big deal about one or three songs, from on album.

Radio stations are licensed and pay the artists for their music - they cannot just play anything. Downloaders should also be paying a fee so the artists get paid. If you worked hard owning a restaurant, would you give me all your food for free?

actually i think it is not legal or suggested to record music from the radio (alot of disc jockeys will talk way into a song playing and before it is over to discourage people from recording)-because the recorder will less likely tune in again to hear that and/or other songs thus the ratings decrease then sponsors pull out and revenue/money goes out the door etc-but still people do it.

but back to ur question, i think it has something to do with the concept behind each in acquiring "money". I could be wrong, but i think radio has a structured model in place to funnel monies from sponsors and companies via commercials etc. so artists and radio hosts-everyone gets a piece of the pie-or at least some of it, whereas on the free downloading sites that payroll check or cash process dramatically decreases if it exists at all. i wish there was a happy medium for everyone with free radio downloads and artist/label prosperity without all the hoopla! i love music!

I don't know the legal part - but the problem with limewire is it makes the song/album available to millions of people who haven't paid the artist a dime. If there was a truck full of stolen cds at the mall and the guy driving it was giving them away for free it is wrong for you to take them because they are stolen property.

Well in Canada, which I'm more familiar with, it's not illegal to download music, it's illegal to upload music, you are then distributing music without permission and licence, where a radio station has permission and a licence.

Radio stations pay artist to play there songs. They get so many cents for having there song played.
