Absolutely nothing.
The problem with communism itself though is that it's a poor idealogy to apply to a country like America (or most for that matter) because it simply does not work in real life, especially in 2007. It places too much faith where it doesn't belong...in the government's hands with everything else.

If you are a communist, then presumably you believe in a one-party state, the outlawing and brutal suppression of all opposition, rigid government control of not only all industry but all media and communications as well, the total militarisation of society in the cause of the revolution, perpetual war against your real and perceived enemies (including those states and parties which profess to be communist, but do not conform to your own government's definition of the term), and the use of any means possible to further the cause of the party and the revolution, including making and breaking treaties and alliances according to the whim of party leaders and whatever they consider expedient. Not to mention the mass arrest, imprisonment without trial, torture and execution of real or imagined opponents of the regime.
So, perhaps the question should be not so much, 'what is wrong with being a communist?', as 'what is right about all of that?'
Btw: a lot of the above also happens in regimes which aren't communist at all and are supposed to be part of the 'Free World' ('free from communism', that is)

communism doesn't work. Look at all the countries which have tried it and they're no where near the level of wealth, freedom and standard of living as those with democracies and capitalism.
A system that was supposed to be FOR the people and the workers was not. Only those in power did well. the whole theory of everybody being equal or sharing equally did not happen. And those who were largely equal, were largely poor.

Same thing that's wrong with being a fascist or any other kind of statist - you want to eliminate individual self-determination and render the individual person a cog in the state machine.

Nothing if you don't mind following an economic system that has been proven to not work because it goes against basic human nature.

What's wrong with 2 + 2 = 5?
It doesn't add up.
Communism has never worked. And why should hard workers be penalized for more income than someone else?

Communism is a nice little theory that absolutely refuses to work where human beings are involved...
