if you were to buy a mafia fiction book what would you look for in it as far as characters,the plot and everything?

The main thing I'd be looking for are some insights into how the criminal mind works--how these people think about the nasty things they do.

Realism.
A well researched and accurate version of the story. That would take a lot of work to write. As it did for Mario Puzo. Pax - C.

Originality. Avoid cliches. Be creative, quirky, surprising.
