That's what we thought, too. New dishwashers are very efficient at making suds from the tiniest amount of detergent.
Now we use barely a tablespoonful of detergent.
OR, maybe your kid snuck some in the bottom of the machine when you weren't looking.

It sounds like you may have accidentally put the wrong type of soap in it. The dish detergent for washing dishes in the sink cannot be used in the dishwasher.

Did you use regular dish soap instead of dishwasher soap? That's why my dishwasher flooded with bubbles once.

What type of soap did you use? My son used laundry soap once and did the same thing....... If not your pipes are backing up somewhere.... Try liquid plumber in the sink nearest to the dish washer..... Do you have a washing machine and how far away is it from the kitchen area.....????

You put the wrong soap in it. Dishwashing detergent (i.e., Cascade) is not the same as dishwashing liquid (i.e., Dawn). Detergent doesn't foam up at all.
