I watched Roman Polanski's "Tess" and liked it. But right now I can't handle another classical drudgery after A Passage To India. So is it truly boring, or a must-read?

I think Thomas Hardy is fine author-wise, his writing style is bearable, but sometimes I felt that the story was just too much for me to handle (too boring, Tess was too dependent on others, the romance had no substance...). But if you already know the story, you could give it a try. : )

I found it pretty interesting when I read it. That sort of book takes a bit getting into, doesn't it? But is usually worth the investment of time.
