Gold. But gold comes in a lot of shades (piano gold, rich pale gold, bright gold) so you should look for an antique gold, like piano gold--this will not have a yellowish cast or greenish cast, but a reddish cast to it. You will know it the moment you put your paint or fabric sample against it.

that depends on what other colors are in the room and what style you are going for, gold is nice, deep royal purple, a rusty orange, other shades of red.
if you need more contrast i would suggest green.

I like golds (if you like) but my fav with red is various shades and tints of yellow.
