The pharynx is a muscular part of the digestive system that pulls food into the earthworm's mouth.

The intestine is a long tubular organ in the digestive system that finishes digestion and allows digested food to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

The intestine is the longest digestive organ. The extra length means that food is in the intestine for more time as it passes through the worm. More time means that food is digested better and more of the digested food is absorbed into the blood.
