You could have a problem with your meniscus, which is the cartilage in your knee. That could be shifting, and cause you a lot of pain. You really should get an MRI of your knee, as that test is easy, and will show you pictures of the inside of your knee, and what is going on in there. I injured my left knee, and finally had an MRI, I saw that I have a torn meniscus, and I opted for arthroscopic surgery, to repair that area in my knee. If I do not get the surgery the meniscus can get worse. So instead of guessing, check with your Dr., as the knee is very important, so we can walk. You can check out the website, The Kneeguru, and you can ask questions, and you will get a reply from a Dr. on your condition. good luck...........

It can be the ligament that connects to your knee cap. Sometimes a deficit in a thigh muscle can cause strain on the ligament allowing the kneecap to move when it shouldn't and it's very painful. You should ask your doctor about an MRI and see if physical therapy will help. If it's a muscle problem PT will most likely fo the trick but there's no way to know without the doctor ordering the proper tests. Get it done before it gets worse and causes more pain.
