Is it ok to take cold medicine PM once a while if you cant fall asleep?

Last night i couldnt sleep, i stared at my ceiling for 40 minutes straight and having stressful thoughts and not tired at all. So i took a CVS Cold Relief Night Time and i passed out.

Obviously i know that this could lead to addiction or damage my system. But i was sad :[ and wanted to fall asleep.

Im not like 50 or anything. Im a Senior in HS 17yr guy 5`8 160pds (jacked lol!). I just got rejected to prom. meh. :/

cold medicine, not so sure of. I know some people take benadryl to fall asleep. don't know how good that is either. But you could take something like tylenol pm. That has something to help you sleep.

Although it's most likely not going to cause physical harm to take the recommended dose of a medicine once in a while for sleep, it's really not a good idea to use a cold medicine to deal with issues relating to being stressed out or sad. Instead try turning on some music, or doing other things that make you relaxed and calm. If you're still having difficulties sleeping, especially if this occurs on a regular basis, it's a better idea to see your doctor about taking a sleep aid instead of cold medicine. As a pharmacy student, I wouldn't recommend taking a cold medication just to sleep, as it contains other medications that you really don't need.

BTW, don't stress about the prom, just dance with all the other guy's dates instead!
