Perhaps because Africa is the poorest continent in the world and they can use all the help they can get?!
Fortunately those celebs are more open-minded than some people in here!

Many people help Africa. You only hear about Oprah and Madonna because they are so famous. The greatest people are the ones we never hear about. They aren't doing it for the recognition. True helpers do it for Jesus, not fame.

Well, Oprah contributes to many organizations all over the world. I am not sure about Madonna.

Yes ! I have always wondered why no one will help the poor,sick,elderly and homeless people here in the United States. Africas problems will never go away.

maybe because oprah is black and she knows that her people in africa needs more help..no offense meant..regarding madonna maybe oprah rubbed some of her good samaritan elbows on her..or maybe you just question their philantrophy because you wished you were in their shoes OR you wished you are one of the beneficiaries..lol

Because it's trendy, celebrities are HUGE attention seekers. And they do what they can to keep their names in the news paper, TV, etc. If they were to publicize charity in the US, the public most likely wouldn't be as interested IMO.
