I have been dancing for 2 years now, and I am quite familiar with basic/intermediate technique. Recently, I have begun learning how to do a fouette, and I am doing it fairly well, but it is still very difficult for me. I think i need to work on my turnout since i have not been in ballet, but are there any other tips that could help me in mastering my fouette?

ok, im a dancer 2. and u need to pull up and use ur CORE!!! pretend ur turing leg is pinned to the ground so u dont fall out. just pull up and i personally dont think ur turnout matters! My turnout is awful and i can do both straight leg and regular fuetaes really well.

wow. good job! tahts cool. i'd suggest, make sure your leg is plea-ing at the right time. and pointing in the same direction as you come around each time to plea. make sure you DO plea too! especially at the beginging.you dont want to wind up or be hopping. use your center balance at your core of yourself, and make sure you stay in top of your leg (DONT LEAN OVER!) thats very bad for the balance of your fouette. make sure that you are spotting and DO try to work on your turnout. spotting is a really big part of it. just keep working. P.S. i find that when i am going on stage in a dance where im doing a whole bunch of fouettes, DONT PRACTICE, then you just get frustrated and cant do them. just do them a few hours or maybe even a hour befer you go on and you should do fine.! good luck!

One of the main things that you need to remember when doing a fouette is that as you take your leg to second don't let it go past second position! as this will cause you to loose your back, balance and your fouette will be hard to manage!
hope this helps you!

They frustrate me too!!!
What I'm doing that helps is practicing them one at a time at the barre. I prepare, turn and reset everthing, keep doing it until you dont have to reset anything to stay balanced.
usually after I do that then i can get them in the middle...
