T = Teen (T4 is aimed at teenagers. I hate to break it to you, but Hollyoaks isn't really for grown-ups. I know, I was crushed, too...).
E = Ｅxtra (As in an 'extra' Channel 4 channel).

Just phoned my mate and he thinks T4 is Television 4 and E4 is extra 4.Good question.Puzzled me too.

The "E" stands for entertainment, and the channel is mainly aimed at the lucrative 16 - 35 age group.

I thought the T stood for Teen and the E stood for Everyone. Like they rate the video games. I could be mistaken, of course.
