I think either you or the person who has been giving you this information got your signals crossed. I think that they meant Clown Loach, which are also fun but a completley different fish. Any form of loach is fun. I like my dojo loach. He reminds me of an eel and he does really good with my other tropical fish. He is hyperactive and is very entertaining. Not very pretty though.... he's actually so ugly he's cute! Very fascinating.... I guess it depends on which of the 2 qualities you are wanting more. Whatever you do, please don't put a saltwater fish in with a tropical!
And I saw that someone told you that a betta isn't a tropical fish.... it is very much a tropical fish and needs to be treated as so. It sounds like you are doing just fine with it!
Sorry, I have no tips of gravel cleaning!

no you can not add a marine clown fish to a tro[ical tank but there is a clown fish that you can buy for tropical tanks that is a pale yellow and black its a real nice fish and lives quite a while not like most fish that live 2 years
the gravel cleaner you have to suck through the pipe first to get the presurre of the water to come out and then put it in a bucket mind you dont swollow any lol
neons and also red eyes tetras bring a nice colour to the tak also mollys and plattes will be fine you have to be real careful what you put with the fighter fish as oher fish will bite its lovely fins off

Last weekend I added a lyre tailed sword tail to my tank and he looks very impressive with all his long elegant fins, looks more like a brilliant orange Siamese fighting fish.
My fighter came out of the plants all puffed up looking for a fight until her realised it wasn't another fighter, he's still following him around just to make sure.
My ghost mollies are now trying to mate with him, (there such bimbos) not sure if I'll have success there but it will be an interesting mix if they succeed.
I wouldn't be putting a clown fish in the tropical tank, they belong in a marine tank.
Wet Web Media (I think that's right) springs to mind to find out more about the compatibility of fish, just type the words Wet Web Media into the search bar and you'll find it, it's full of information on both tropical and salt water fish.
Good luck with your tank, it's a fascinating hobby isn't it?

Marine fish like the Clown fish cannot be kept with fresh water fish I am afraid. They might survive a short while but it would be unfair on the fish. Also your Siamese fighting fish shouldn't be kept with gouramis as they come from the same family and are territorial.

clown fish are marines, salt water, they will die without salt as they need it.,..... i think you mean clown loach which are cool, and very interesting and have similar colour pattern but are larger and generally bottom dwelling, also sleep on their side,.
u need a gravel cleaner with a hand pump at one end that u vigorously pump manually to get started and gently shuffle the stones as u clean.make sure that u keep the external end lower than the tank u r cleaning ...gravity !!!!
get a plec and some corydoras they love algaexxand make interesting watching.

clown fish is saltwater. it cannot live in freshwater. if u mean a clown loach, then u will be ok. the gravel cleaner needs to be placed right on top of gravel and stuck into it a short distance like a cm or two.

To use your gravel cleaner put the whole thing in your tank and get it full of water with no air bubbles anywhere in it,then take the smaller tube out while carefully plugging the end of it and put it in your bucket that should start the syphoning action.

I think you have your answer for the clownfish: definitely not in freshwater. I see another serious problem with the fish you have though. Bettas and guppies can't be put in the same tank. The betta will view the guppy's fancy tail to be another betta and kill them. Also, depending on what type tetras you have, they may nip the betta's (and the guppy's) tail and stress him to the point that he dies. What size tank do you have them all in? What kind of bottom feeder is it?

No. marine fish can't be mixed with tropical.
German Ram is an interesting fish.
You are doing it right. The tube has to be lower than the intake however.
