I'm sorry but you KNOW it's true. Everytime someone's talking about great hockey players this guys is almost never mentioned. It's always "Crosby Crosby Crosby" which he is totally amazing don't get me wrong but people why count Alexander the Great out?

One thing most people say is "Oh he doesn't have as many points." I don't know how many times I've explained this but if Ovechkin had Malkin, Stall, Armstrong, the list goes on, don't you think he too could have a few more assist? I mean give me a break, who has he got the the Capitails who can score like some of those guys? You see you can't get assist if you don't have teamates who can score, I mean, is that a very hard concept? Do you think Crosby would've gotten that many assist had he been on the Capitails?

I mean really, why does everyone underrate him? I guess that's my question

I don't hate Ovechkin, although I am not really his biggest fan because he draws too much attention to himself and has a big ego. He goes out to the ice before his teammates, when he scores he is like "everybody look at me." Right down to the tinted visor. If you watch Crosby, he seems happiest when one of his teammates score and let's face it, he is better. The media likes to draw comparisons because they both came in the NHL at the same time and are both superstars.
To answer your question about the fact that Crosby has more points because being surrounded by better talent is off the mark. I do think Crosby would have as many points, yes. Funny how you mention an 18 year old (Staal) who Crosby does not play with, a rookie (Malkin) who Crosby plays with mostly just on the PP and Colby Armstrong who has 11 goals.
The Caps do have guys that can score and they would score more with Crosby. Ovechkin is a shoot first guy. Crosby is a playmaker and thus makes everyone around him better. No way Recchi has 22 goals without Crosby.
Ovechkin leads the NHL by a bit in shots on goal-he has 366. Crosby has 229. So you can see the difference.
I don't think people are gettinng down on or underrating him, they are just saying that he is no Crosby, which he isn't. In 10 years the numbers will really show this and Sidney will still be 2 years younger.
One of the biggest myths is that playing on a good team means more production when in fact, in most cases, especially for young players, it is the opposite because a good young player on a bad team gets more ice time, more PP time etc.

I don't think everyone hates Ovechkin. I for one don't. As a matter of fact, Ovechkin has been and is the better player of the two. Stats are only one thing that makes a player standout, but alot of what really makes a player is never recorded on the stat sheet. Crosby is a great player, awesome to say the least. He will break many statistical categories because he's one of those rare players with a great hockey sense. But as far as a more complete and mature player, thats what separates Ovechkin from Crosby. Ovechkin isn't afraid to mix it up. He'll lay the boom and body check on a player. He never whines and doesn't complain. He goes out there and you can see the fire in his eyes when he plays. Ovechkin's ONLY help has been Zubrus last year and Semin this year. Crosby has been surrounded by the likes of Recchi, Malkin, and Gonchar to name a few. And if we do look at stats, have you seen just how even Ovechkin's goals and assists are for both years? An awesome passer and a shooter. And you will never hear Ovechkin complain or whine. He is the heart and soul of the capitals and plays every game like it is his last.

Well He kinda flopped this year honestly. The team got better and he got worse. Which makes you wander as the team gets better will he get worse (Semin 70 points Zubrus 52 points and would have more if he didn't get traded, Chris Clark 50 points)? Maybe he is the kinda player that needs to take 400 shots in order to put up this big numbers, and if he does it will be very hard to find him linemates that ALWAYS want to feed him the puck.

Until next season these questions can't be answered. And, thats why people are talking about Crosby. Ovechkin has fallen from one of the untouchables to just a great player.

i don't hate Ovechkin the people that hate Ovechkin and Crosby are just jealous about there dominance in the NHL at an early age that's all. there both great players. PEOPLE ALWAYS LIKE TO HATE GOOD PLAYERS AND GOOD TEAMS ITS ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THAT.

if he was traded to some of these hatters teams then they would turn around and say they have the best player in the league.

zaphodsc…>>>>OVECHKIN IS ON THE ICE MOST OF THE TIME, AND LIKE YOU SAID HES PLAYING ON A TERRIBLE TEAM SO WHY WOULD HIS +/- BE IN THE + RATINGS. Bobby Orr was on a great team in the 70's having a + rating of over 100 several times in his career, you think he'd get that if he was playing with the California Seals not a chance.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

First off, Ovechkin is one of the most self centered people in the league. He only cares about his own points. Where as someone like crosby gets most his points from assists and is so much more mature than Ovechkin.

Secondly, what the hell? does everybody forget where the penguins were last year? yeah ovechkin is on a bad team but so was Sidney last year too(worse than the capitals). Sidney made the Penguins what they are today through teamwork, passing and trusting his teammates.

The two young guys are amazing. But like you said Ovechkin has no one else on his team. I believe Ovechkin is a better individual but Crosby is working with young guys who have been playing together for years. Crosby just plays with a better team thats all.

Hate isn't the right word.

Face it AO is going to have worse stats this year than last; he is on a bad team. He isn't the type of player that can single handedly improve his team.

He is a great goal scorer, superb power forward. But he is a horrible defensive liability, unlike Sid.

Your boy has the worst plus/minus on a sucky team; doesn't speak well for him overall does it now?

Hab: Semin has almost average ice time and a much better plus minus. Some of the D have more average ice time and even are pluses. If AO wasn't such a defensive liability his minus would lower.
