It depends on the baby. Sometimes it is hard to get a child to use a sippy cup at first. There are the ones that is like a bottle in the fact the the sippy part is the texture of a nipple but it is shaped like a sippy cup. My personal favorite were the gerber ones that were spill proof, and then parents choice has some nice ones as well.

Most people like to start with the spill proof ones because the babies just throw them down. You also have to gradually get them started sometimes like replacing one bottle a day with the sippy cup for a week, then move to two. and so on and so forth.

But really it is just going to depend on your child.

You can find in the baby section of Wal-mart, Target, etc. sippy cups that have soft tips, similar to a bottle nipple. I found these to be the easiest transition for my two girls. And they didn't hurt their gums like some of the hard sippies did.

Once the baby is about 18 months, make sure to start giving them small cups without lids at the table to prevent them from being on a sippy cup forever. The cheap, plastic gerbers are great for this, just right for their small hands.

while 6 1/2 months is a little young try the Nubby it is soft like the top of a bottel but with a sippy cup like mouth part. She may choke a few times because a sippy will let out more liquid then what she is used to at one time

definitely the Nuby sippy cups - but not the ones with the handles...I'm taking about the ones that are 1.50 or so a piece and 10 oz in size.

I gave one to my 7 month old - who has never had a bottle in her life - and she took right to it, no problem.

It may take a bit for you to find one that the baby likes. I used the Playtex brand.

there are these ones called nuby sport. they have a soft spout to where it doesn't affect his or her teeth. This is the only one I would ever use. I swear by it. So do all of my friends.
