My laptop can play CDs and DVDS (music/videos) but any CD that I've burned with files (such as documents or pictures) won't open. The e: drive just says "blank disc" and nothing opens. But I opened these CDs before and there were files in them. I wonder what might be the problem? Thanks!

Did you finalize the disc using the burning program?

I have the same problem! I burned the HBO series Rome in CD-Rs a year ago. I wanted to go watch them again. It would play in the DVD player. But my computer cant read anything. Its just a blank disc for it as well. Please let me know if you were able to resolve this problem.

It sounds as though the driver for the drive may have become corrupted. Try this:
Right click on "My Computer"
Click on "Properties"
Click on the "Hardware" tab
Click on the "Device Manager" bar.
Now scan through your devices til you find that specific drive.
Right click on that entry, and click on "Uninstrall".
Once the drive has been uninstalled, exit from there and then reboot the computer.
Windows will see the drive as "New Hardware", and reinstall the correct driver for it.
Now try the CD's that formerly weren't recodgnized in that drive. Hope this helps.
