Call your state wildlife commission fish and wildlife service, whatever tennessee calls it and ask to speak with someone about requirements for exotic pets, they'll transfer you to someone or give you the number to another state department (agriculture perhaps, they're all strange, and different states have different types of red tape), they'll want to know what you want to keep, you tell them, they'll tell you if there are any requirements.

Please consider the following, though. Why do you want to have a croc? If it's merely for the macho factor, please reconsider before you hurt yourself or one of your friends. I have experience with a few species of crocs (american, morelett's and cuban mostly), and they start thinking they're big at a very small size. You should truly have a commendable reason for wanting to own something like this, ours have always been for educational programs, we've been doing things for scouts, school groups and things like that for a long time, and someone always wants to know the difference between an alligator and a crocodile, it's nice to be able to show those differences on live specimens, and it's also very nice to be able to have an american croc to show people what our crocodiles look like (Yes, Florida is the only place in the world with alligators and crocodiles). These animals have about 80 teeth, are fast as hell when it comes to getting in a bite, and at about 4 feet long they begin looking at people as if we are a lesser life form....

Nowhere in US can you have a pet croc. You need special permits to have them legally. Crocs fall into the same exotic category as gators, lions, tigers, bears, and venomous snakes. If you want to play with crocs do what i did, get a job at the zoo.

They MAY be legal as pets where you are (many places do not allow any croc or gator as pets), however, it is illegal to capture or sell native US crocs, or to import most other crocs into the US.

A bigger question is 'are crocs pets'? The answer to that is 'only if you have the right set-up and experience.'
