Just wondering if someone can answer questions in regards to Littering Citation (Code and sectionn 23111 VC). To make a long story short, i was a passenger sitting in my friend's vehicle while I threw a cigarette butt out of the window and was caught by a COP who issued me a citation.

I'd like to find out about the following:

1, What is the average or an usual fine for this in Glendale , California or Los Angeles? I did some research and it looks like it's between $100.00- $1,000.00. But that's really a big range. Please let me know if someone had prior experience in this.

2. Is community service required? The COP mentioned about 8 hours of community service. But I don't know whether it's something that I will definitely get if I am convicted.

3. Please let me know if someone knows how to fight this ticket in court.

Thanks in Advance

Thanks for all who have submitted answers. However, I guess discussing why it happened and how it happened is pretty much useless for now. Can anybody tell me whether it's true that i'll be fined up to $1000? or will there be community service on top of that?

Thanks

Easy,
Go to court and ask to "See The Evidence"
They won't have it,then ask that the case be dismissed for lack of evidence.
(The state must show "Proof" of wrong doing)
The proof in this case is the "Evidence"
or a video of wrong doing performed by you.

If you don't defend yourself,no one else will.

Were you a passenger in the back or the front?

Is it one of those cars where the window only goes down half way or all the way if you were in the back?

Are there any potholes or debris that you can say the driver had to swerve to avoid? Say he had to avoid something and take evasive driving which made you spill your drink on you and that the cigarette burned you, causing you to instinctively to throw it out the window.

It shouldn't be more than $1,000 (If the judge is in a crappy mood and didn't get laid that day)

There's a possibility they'll lay down the law with you since that was where the fires were a while back.

Lie lie lie. Fight fight fight.

With all the large fires in California, throwing a cigarette out the window pretty well tops the list. Good thing it didn't start a fire, or you would be up s--- Creek without a paddle, just wishing you could just pay $ 1,000.00. What a person (s) would have died? Prison life is just a Lil' stress-full, especially in the showers !!! Good Luck !!

I guess you'll be using the ashtray next time. huh?

You can go to the court date and if the cop doesn't show, you win. but if he does show, you usually get fined worse than if you had just paid it.

The fine could be high, a lot of fires are started by cigs thrown out of the car window especially in Cali where it's super dry.

BZ to the Police in Glendale! The world is not your ash tray. I do support a person's right to lung cancer. But I am tired of them thinking they can dump their butts anywhere they feel like it. Live and learn!
