High Occupancy Vehicle, known in some other States as the Diamond Lane or Carpool lane, it's the lane where only cars with two or more passengers are allowed to drive.

Corpses, pets, blow up dolls, mannequins or similar don't count as occupants. Just to answer John P's question.

Amazingly enough, if the other person dies while you drive you have to go off the HOV lane, otherwise you'd be elligible for a ticket, on the officer's discretion.

Nope, I read about the cops busting people for that all the time. I read about a guy once who worked for a funeral home. He had just picked up a corpse and was driving in the HOV lane. He got pulled over. I can't remember if he got cited or not. Who would be right, him or the cop? Technically he has more than one occupant, I don't know if it states anywhere that they have to be alive. What would happen if there were two of you in the car. When all of a sudden one will die?

I've actually considered it when I'm driving my kids to places and they lay the front seat back so they can sleep. I get all kinds of nasty looks from people who think I'm using the HOV lane illegally.
Do they still call it the contraflow lane where you live? They used to be able to change the flow of traffic in the middle lane based on the peak usage periods.

Nah. It might work, but then again, it might not, and I'm the lucky one who ALWAYS gets caught! Fine is too high, I just wouldn't risk it, for the few minutes it *might* save me!
