is there like a reason or is it just... like by chance that you remember

Typically, the ones we remember are the ones that happen right before we wake up. I remember hearing somewhere that we can actually have hundreds of dreams in one night.

Think about it though, when you remember a dream, isn't it because you just woke up from it?

Well I tend to remember dreams that I was having before I wake up. Or if someone mentions something relating to a dream I had that could trigger my memory in some way. Besides that, some dreams just stick with you for some reason.

We dream in cycles. You remember learning about REM sleep in school? REM is rapid eye movement. When you are in REM sleep you are dreaming. If you happen to wake during the dreaming phase of this cycle; you're more likely to remember it. If you wake after the dream phase of the cycle you may remember it; but not all the details. It gets foggier the longer from the dream you go.
If you want to remember your dreams more clearly I suggest as soon as you wake up write down any thing, thought, or even feeling that was in your dream.

well, you're usually dreaming every night, but you don't remember some of them because you forget them if you wake up slowly over a period of time. If you wake up suddenly, you usually remember them.
