Prokarotic cells have:
• no membranes except for the cell membrane
• no membrane-bound organelles
• no nucleus; instead, the DNA is stored in a part of the cell called thenucleoid region, which has no membrane
• only have ribosomes as organelles--as they are the only non-membrane-bound organelle--but they are smaller than in eukaryote cells
• only a circular single chromosome, as opposed to the 46 non-circular chromosomes in humans, and
• the cell wall are made of peptidoglycen--target of penicillin--as opposed to the cellulose we find in plant cell walls
