What do you think? I would like to know

Alot of people think I am prejudice, I didnt think I was until my daughter hit purberty. Honestly I think it would be best for all if she married the same race. I grew up in nyc around all ethnic groups and have nothing against these people, I thought.

I'm opposed. There are many problems in every marriage. Why start with a built in problem? Certainly, there are many successful mixed marriages, but it just seems that they are successful, in spite of the problems, not that the problems don't exist.

If you are prejudiced, then I am too. I was born and raised just 3 miles from NYC, in Jersey and haved lived amongst all ethnic groups.
I don't think mixed marriages were meant to be. I married out of my race years ago and found, afterwards(divorced), that we really didn't have much in common. We grew up in different cultures with different ways of raising children, etc., which led to many an arguement.
So, what I'm saying is....if my daughter came home with a man of another race and said he loved and wants to care for her, and it all seems alright, I guess I'll have to approve it. I don't have to like it, but I won't make waves for them.

I don't think so. Marriage is about love and has nothing to do with the individuals' characteristics.
To be against a "mixed" marriage gives precedence to skin color or race over the fact that the two people love each other, and that is prejudiced.

yes i think you can. i don't believe mixed marriages stand much of a chance in survival simply because of all the prejudices out there. the couple themselves may be fine but the pressures put on them can be insurmountable.
when i say mixed marriage, i don't mean just racial, i mean religious as well, even devout politics can disrupt your marriage.
i have no problem with other cultures or religions until they want to move into my family, i don't like it, i don't want them, plain and simple. other than that....... i'm prejudice free! :)

by the way.........nicky hit the nail right on the head! good going girl!

Sure. You may have nothing against the races, but in some cases cultures just don't mix and it's not worth the trouble.

No because if you are against mixed marriages, then when you see a mixed couple, you automatically judge them before you get to know them. And for all you know they're great people! That is prejudice.

Kind of sad that at this day and age people don't accept people for their qualities, instead of their race, sexual orientation etc.

I think I need more information before I can answer your question. Why are you against mixed marriages?

But to answer what you have asked, no, I don't think you can be against mixed marriages and not be prejudiced. Typically, the reasons for being against mixed marriages lie along racial/religious grounds. That's almost invariably the reason and that's also prejudiced.

No, I don't think so. You see, if you believe that all people were created equal and are worthy, then the color of their skin, their religion, their nationality...none of it should be important. Just two people who love each other getting married. That's a beautiful thing. If you think blacks should only marry blacks and whites should only marry whites, etc., then you are prejudiced against inter-racial marriages. But it doesn't mean you don't like black people or you don't like white people. You are just prejudiced against people marrying outside their own race.

Yes

Not really. You could be against some things about the culture itself but then some families may not believe in the things you are concerned about.
