As far as loudness goes, its important for a motorcycle to be louder so that we motorists can hear them coming. They are small so they are harder to see, but easier to hear..
As far as bragging rites go, Its all a matter of pride...There is a certain feeling of freedom and adventure for avid motorcyclists. They are a breed of their own. People who don't ride don't really grasp the concept of the "rush" when roaming about the world on their rice burners. My husband is one of them and it used to drive me crazy until I started riding with him. Then I understood what he was talking about. It made me want to learn how to ride so i could enjoy the experience with him. the only reason he talks up his bike is because he put a lot of custom work into it and he is very proud. He should be because he did an awesome job at it. Looks totally professional and all the other bikers love it..

hey man...i dont think they intentionally make the bike louder...but when you got a crotch rocket..your one of those types that loves to speed and race around and want everyone to see you doing it...when someone thinks they can sing they go on american idol right...you just cant stop them from wanting everyone to share in what they deem special....

It wakes me up everynight, certainly annoying.

I guess they enjoy showing off like that.
